This is my newest portrait quilt pattern called "Earth Mother" which is available for sale on my website. I had made this quilt back in 2011 and brought it out of retirement this Spring to show it as examples of embellishment options while lecturing at a quilt show. A few people asked if this was a pattern and I said "it could be!" I changed the background and utilized the piecing of scrappy 5" squares to help guide in the applique placement since the vertical and horizontal seam lines work as guidelines.
I selected 42 5" squares of batiks for the background and a dark green batik for the raw edged fused applique because green seemed nature-like and Summery. The finished size is 28" x 32." Earth Mother has long hair, an off the shoulder dress, a pendant necklace and a variety of leaves to form a crown in her hair plus one more on her cheek.
