Sacred Threads Quilt Exhibit 2019 Eye Contact: Creating A Connection

Sacred Threads Quilts exhibit is completely amazing and I have had the pleasure of having my quilts in their exhibits in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. I have applied for 2019 and must wait until April to find out if my 2 entries are accepted. The quilt show is in July in the uneven years. This year a special exhibit titled Eye Contact is offered for anyone to enter. All entries will be accepted and not due until May 31, 2019. I thought this exhibit was made for me because I make portrait quilts and eyes are my favorite part of each project!! I chose to do these quilts now because it is winter and I sew a lot since what else can I do when the weather is yucky!

This is my first entry. The required size is 23” x 5”-long and narrow. I redrew my 2014 quilt called Rosita to fit the size requirements while keeping all the details and colors the same. I did not add the black hair so as to not take away from the eyes. I painted the details with fabric matte paint and a dotting tool. No glitter which was hard because I love glitter!!

This is entry number 2 based on my 2010 quilt Bubbly Blonde. It was a large quilt so I did not redraw it.

This is my 2010 quilt Bubbly Blonde which is my homage to Twiggy and 1960s hair, makeup and jewelry!!

And finally, this is entry quilt 3 based on my small quilt The Eyes Have It which I made in 2017. I did have to redraw this quilt to get to the larger size. Lots on bling from rhinestones in a variety of sizes and glitter paint. In the original quilt I couched black bouche yarn in the hair for added texture. I wanted to add yarn to this quilt but said not to this idea because this about the eyes not the hair.
