Step By Step Facebook Art Quilt Group Challenge: Makeup/Hair Tutorial

Today is reveal day for my Facebook art quilt group’s bimonthly challenge. The theme was Step By Step. I thought of makeup and hair lessons or tutorials. I was a huge fan of Kevin Aucoin, a makeup artist for celebrities, who wrote 3 wonderful makeup books yet passed away from prescription drug overuse in the early 2000s. He would photograph women with their makeup NOT blended to show how and where to apply and which colors to use. The hair tutorial reminds me of my beauty school text book diagrams to show the location and direction of curls. These diagrams used arrows to help cosmetologist understand the direction and movement of the individual curls. When I finished this quilt I realized how crazy it looked and how it is important to blend your makeup or you will look like this!! Even the dark lipliner looks bad to me! I over-accentuated the shape or the eye brow to explain how to create an eye arch but the female in the quilt looks kind of mean. I always have my portrait quilts looking pretty so this one is kind of weird but it fit the Step by Step theme.
