My Facebook art quilt group’s current challenge is due for revealing today. The theme was Numbers but with a twist of using a song, book or saying title. I somehow had the Bruno Mars song 24K Magic pop into my head and I thought about a portrait quilt with the use of a bunch of metallic golds and a woman who represents an African/Nubian queen.
I pulled from my stash all potential lames and gold embossed fabrics. I wanted a crown on the woman’s head and a lot of necklaces and a collar type thing around her neck. I frequented Pinterest for ideas and ran with what I liked.
I embellished this quilt with a sequin/bead, chunky gold glitter, gold nail polish, gold Dollar Store poster paint, fabric markers, white matte fabric paint, rhinestones, grosgrain ribbon and a repurposed earring hanging on the forehead. I had more than enough trim and bling to make this work so I had to edit out some of the goodies.
