Whimisical Selfie Quilt Pattern: Witchie Poo

My first portrait quilt pattern designed in 2011, originally titled "Angelina" then changed to "Whimsical Selfie Quilt" for marketing sake, got a new version. I continue to add different hairstyles, hats and holidays. Since I am a huge Halloween and witch lover it seemed normal to add a witch selfie quilt. I made the top a year ago and I am not a UFO fan so I thought I needed to complete this wall hanging.   I have a love of collecting Halloween fabrics and digging into my fabric stash to make this was a breeze. I selected the one sided long hair braid for the hair and added the basic dress pattern instead of the usual shoulder straps-its colder in the fall so she needed more clothes!

For embellishments I used a green glitter nail polish on the eye lids, some orange glitter poster paint on the lips, a green bead for a wart on the chin, orange loose glitter on the hair, a black plastic spider on the hat band and a few slivery rhinestones for the background. I searched 2 to 3 times in my embellishment stash for a non-shiny purple trim for the dress neckline but I had nothing. I will still keep looking and add it later. Happy Halloween!

Lady Liberty Whimsical Selfie Class Sample *NEW*

I love the 4th of July for two reasons-I love the combination of red, white and blue (a throwback to my Appleton (WI) High School-East colors and I love the Statue of Liberty. I have made two other wall hangings with her but two weren't enough and I liked the idea of my Whimsical Selfie pattern woman wearing a Statue of Liberty hat similar to the ones people purchase at the parties stores! Yes, I have worn this look!!

My daughter is 35 now but when she was little she said she wanted to grow up to be the Statue of Liberty-I said she was a strong female but her arm might get sore holding up the light!!

This pattern is my first and oldest pattern. I have taught it many times and I get suggestions of glasses and new hairstyles from the students in my classes. Last year I added a Santa hat, a witches hat, a steampunk hat and a Rosie the Riveter style headband. I designed more clothes besides the shoulder straps. A common request from students in my last class was for a smooth one length bob hairstyle. While designing the Lady Liberty hat I also drew up this bob and combined it in this quilt.

I have run out of my great fun 4th of July prints and had to buy the background print recently for this quilt. I used Cherrywood Hand-Dyed Fabrics for the skin tones, lips, irises, brows, and shoulder straps which are so awesome to handle and work with.

The border fabrics are quite busy, my choice, and this meant little in the way of embellishments. This saddened me but I wanted the hat to be the focus or I could have used solids or tone on tones for the background and borders which was way too boring!!

I embellished with several color coordinated glitter nail polishes, blue loose glitter, a few rhinestones on the stars in the background fabric and a tiny silver star on the cheekbone.

I will hang it at work at the salon I work at for a few weeks during the 4th of July holiday and then add it to my class samples.

This is the first 4th of July quilt I made several years ago.
